We at Able believe that everyone, regardless of their disabilities, deserves a chance of inclusion in the workplace. To ensure the integration of disabled persons in the office, we need YOUR help to acquire the proper equipment & aid.
Did you know that more than 1.7 million people in the Netherlands have disabilities and over half of them are unemployed? Most can’t find work in the labor market due to the negative stigmas attached to their integration into the workplace. We, at the Able company, aim to fix that!
Our diverse international team comes from various backgrounds within the University of Leiden who are dedicated to helping disabled persons get better access to jobs. With a special focus on visually impaired people, we are currently in conversation with visually impaired people looking for employment. In addition, in co-operation with the municipality of The Hague and the visually impaired organization Bartiméus Sonneheerdt, we are compiling a list of companies who want to improve their corporate social responsibility by hiring individuals with occupational impairments.
How are we going to do this?
By making it easier for disabled persons to get access to a job; and for companies to not only hire them, but also integrate them in the workplace.
We connect disabled persons seeking for employment to companies who want to improve their corporate social responsibility and believe in their potential. At this moment, we are in the process of creating a database with our focus group: visually impaired people. We are currently focusing on the visually impaired as a target group because their unemployment rates are the highest with only 39% of visually impaired people having a job. Through this database, in which we identify their skills, interests, and capabilities, we aim to make a right fit between the candidates and the companies who are motivated to improve their corporate social responsibility. In co-operation with the municipality of The Hague and the visually impaired organization Bartiméus Sonneheerdt, we are currently compiling a list of these companies.
When companies want to improve their corporate social responsibility by hiring disabled staff, they are entitled to several financial incentives that the government offers through the UWV. However, the list of regulations and laws related to these incentives, as well as the process of its implementation, are lengthy and difficult, which scares off many companies who are inexperienced with such an initiative. Able aims to bypass this inconvenience by directly offering proper equipment and aid to companies and its disabled staff ourselves. We will offer expertise on these laws, as well as office equipment such as laptops for visually impaired, similar software, special lights & shades and the like. Through cooperation with Able, we hope that it will become easier for companies to hire disabled staff.
We maintain a rent-to-own financial model approach. We rent out equipment/software directly to the disabled employee in exchange for a monthly fee that corresponds with the original cost of the equipment, with a 3% interest rate. After a year of renting, the employee will own the equipment. Additionally, we charge a 10% fee off the employee’s fifth month’s salary check. If the employee’s contract with the company is terminated before the fifth month, this fee will be waived.
In order to finance our first set of equipment that we will provide to the visually impaired group, we need your contributions.
If we reach 434 euros,
We can finance our first equipment tool: a Macbook Air laptop that comes with visually impaired accessible software.
If we reach 834 euros,
We can buy additional visually impaired accessible software that we can install on Windows computers at companies.
If we reach more than 834 euros,
We can buy additional equipment that the visually impaired employee needs at the office. Think of special lights and shades. Equipment criteria differ per individual and needs to be determined accordingly on individual terms.
