Help CUPable reduce plastic consumption!

CUPable
A foldable cup to reduce plastic waste
One of the main causes of the increasing deterioration of the earth’s climate is the overconsumption and waste of plastic. Plastic is a material hidden in innumerable products people use on a daily basis. Excessive waste of plastic has consequences for the earth’s biodiversity, and eventually human life.

As students of the University of Leiden we realized that our generation is one of the main facilitators of this problem. Students claim to be aware of climate change, but act differently as they waste excessive amounts of plastic at home, school, and parties. Especially festivals contribute to unnecessary demand for plastic, their visitors waste on average 2 kilograms of plastic per person per festival.

CUPable wants to help students to become more aware, and contribute to the reduction of plastic waste. By selling foldable cups that festival visitors reuse during the party we hope to save up to 15 plastic cups per person. The cup will be easily foldable to a small item that fits in your pocket or purse. In addition, the design with festival name will encourage people to use the cup as a replacement of a plastic bottle in their daily life.
Clean oceans
CUPable is based in The Hague (the Netherlands), a city located on the coast. Plastic waste in The Hague easily spills over to the Atlantic Ocean, threatening sea life. Sea life suffers the most from plastic waste, as plastic degrades extremely fast in the ocean. Micro plastics are eaten by fish, which might end up on our plate. CUPable will produce to prevent plastic waste, but is aware that cure is equally important to save our biodiversity. Therefore CUPable will donate 50% of its profits to the OCEANCLEANUP.

We are in need of financial support in order to start building our first prototype. We aspire to create our first prototype by the end of the year to start testing different models and designs. CUPable hopes to sell its first cups at a local festival at the beginning of summer 2018.
With your help CUPable hopes to raise €350 to create the first prototypes.
